1938 Westinghouse Console Radio – model 258
Rose Court Apartments Hobart is home to a 1938 Westinghouse Console Radio. It is available for the use as a radio by our guests.

This radio is a high voltage, working piece of equipment.

How to Use the Radio-258
Turn the Radio-258 On
- Using the Radio On Off Switch on the side Turn the front switch clockwise.
- The dial lights of the radio will come on.
- WAIT about one minute for the radio vacuum tubes to warm up.
For Radio
- Turn the Bluetooth Radio Switch anti-clockwise to Radio
- If the radio is already tuned to a station then sound should be heard from the speaker.
- If there is no sound the radio tuning dial will need adjusting or the volume turned up
- The radio only tunes to AM.
For Bluetooth
The Console Radio has been modified so that you can play sound or music from your phone or another smart device
- Turn the Bluetooth Radio Switch clockwise to Bluetooth
- Bluetooth is now connected to the amplifier circuit of the radio.
- Bluetooth is VHM-314.
- Pair your phone or other smart device
- Sound from your device will now play through the radio.
Tuning the Radio into AM stations
- There are 4 AM stations in Southern Tasmania
- 7RN 585 ABC National
- 7PB 747 ABC News Radio
- 7ZR 936 ABC Hobart
- Z??1080 The Tote Sports Radio
In many cases, the radio dial does not line up with modern radio stations, and many of the stations on the dial no longer exist. The was dial made in 1938. A list of Tasmanian Radios stations can be found at radiostationworld.com
Troubleshooting
No Radio sound Is the On/ Off switch turned on? Have you used the tuning dial to locate a radio station? Is the volume turned down?
No light in tuning dial Is the on/Off switch turned on? Is the Console plugged into the wall socket?
Cannot connect to smart device Is the console turned on? Is the bluetooth switch turned clockwise? Have you paired to your device?
No sound from smart device Is the volume on the console turned down?
Sound from Console Speakers is crackly This is the normal and special sound of classic radio!
